Uganda Prisons Service has announced a cash reward of Shs10 million for information leading to the arrest of a prison warder accused of fatally shooting three people at Kiboga Government Prison before fleeing, as security agencies intensify a nationwide manhunt for the suspect.

The Uganda Prisons Service has placed a Shs10 million bounty on Warder Moses Anguyo, the main suspect in last month’s fatal shooting at Kiboga Government Prison.

The reward was announced on Monday by the Commissioner General of Prisons, Johnson Byabashaija, as authorities intensified efforts to track down the fugitive officer who has been on the run since the February incident that shocked the correctional service.

In a statement released on Monday, Prisons spokesperson Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine Mayanja said the cash reward is intended to encourage members of the public to share information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

“The Commissioner General, Uganda Prisons Service has put a bounty of Shs10M as reward to anyone who provides reliable information leading to the arrest of murderer No. 13544 Warder Anguyo Moses, the prime suspect in the recent fatal shooting incident at Uganda Government Prison - Kiboga that left four people dead,” Baine said.

He added that anyone with useful information should report to the nearest police station or use the toll-free lines provided by security agencies.

“All information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality,” the statement said, urging the public to cooperate with authorities in locating the suspect.

The development comes weeks after the tragic shooting at Kiboga Prison that left senior prison officers dead and sent shockwaves through the correctional service and the surrounding community.

According to the Uganda Prisons Service, the incident occurred at around 10am when Warder Anguyo allegedly turned his firearm on his supervisors before fleeing the facility.

Those killed in the attack were Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, the Deputy Officer in Charge of Kiboga Prison; Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, who served as the third in command; and Sarah Ayebare, the wife of the Officer-in-Charge.

Security agencies immediately secured the scene following the shooting and launched a joint manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large and is considered dangerous.

Authorities have since appealed to the public to remain vigilant and share any information that could help track down the fugitive officer as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident continue.
